Cancun was founded in 1972 in a lightly populated part of the Yucatan peninsula only 300 miles from Florida's southern tip. Over the past three decades the resort has grown to encompass 240 miles of Caribbean coast from Cancun to the country of Belize, and includes such famous resort areas such as the Riviera Maya and Tulum.
